The Dysart High School cheer squad won the state championship for the AIA Class 4A Co-ed Cheer Championship.
Along with winning the overall state championship, DHS had other award winners from the championship tournament.
Sophomore Jacob Dennis and freshman Kaitlin Agrusa, with senior Kelly Sweaney as a spotter, put on an almost perfect performance in Partner Stunt, beating all other teams, winning the State Title in 4A Partner Stunt.
The DHS Pom Team, led by captain, Nancy Rangel and seniors Alycia Rodriguez and Jackie Threat, won the second State Title in 4A Co-ed Pom. It did so with senior Vincent Herre, never having competed in this capacity before, jumping in as the required male on the co-ed squad
Finally, DHS cheerleaders took the floor to compete in 4A Co-ed Show Cheer. Senior Andy Higgins showed off his tumbling skills while sophomore Bailey Dick displayed her great flexibility. Sophomore Brittney Busher came back after a bad ankle sprain to showcase her tumbling and jumps. Despite a few small bobbles and timing problems, the team managed to beat two teams to take third in Co-ed Show Cheer.
After achieving third place in one division and first in two other divisions, the DHS cheer squad achieved enough points to win the Overall 4A Co-ed State Title.
