Valley Vista High’s girls basketball team
Dysart High School’s boys’ basketball team and Valley Vista High’s girls basketball teams both won their region championships and advanced to their state tournaments.
Dysart High School’s boys’ team, coached by 4AI West Valley Region coach of the year John Eberlein, won the 4AI West Valley Region championship.
The team finished the season 14-4 and entered the 4AI state tournament as the fourth seed. Dysart beat Canyon del Oro 65-59 in the first round and will host Peoria High School at 7 p.mn. on Friday, Feb. 19.
The Valley Vista girls, coached by Rachel Matakas, won the school’s first region title by claiming the 5AII Northwest Region championship. The Lady Monsoon finished the regular season 16-2 and enters the 5AII State Tournament as the second seed, hosting Gila Ridge at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25.
